WFRP Chapter 97: For What It’s Worth
Summary: New cults on the block.
After a week of recovering in Kreutzhofen we looked at what options we had. Since Dagmar was not going to be happy with Madoc getting out of Kreutzhofen for a while seemed a good plan. Given Sarah was still being hunted by the Teller clan from Grung Rakadan the decision was to travel there and find a way to deal with Jack Teller and his mother Jemma.
Heading East through the forest we encountered several nervous merchants travelling to Kreutzhofen. Chatting they were concerned about bandits but not had been seen recently. We surmised they had all gone to the boat race and not had come back this way since.
Late in the afternoon we encountered a different party. A finely dressed lady with four bodyguards and a cloaked figure walking behind them. Hayley introduced herself and got chatting with N'ressa. She told us about having inherited property, the Kreutzhofen manor house, from her step father Becker and how she was travelling to Kreutzhofen to help establish the Hoffbauer trading company business. Since we had given the manor house to Silavan we new these were the next wave of chaos cultists.
Hayley tried to use her gloves of the cobra to slay the lady but the magic did not take effect. Unperturbed at N'ressa's immunity to magic she drew her sword and attacked. Tayy flung a bolas that took down her champion. Flendec stepped forward and stabbed him to death. Rubinifa rushed in and also found his magic items had no effect on N'ressa! Madoc stepped up and shot a crossbow as the other bodyguards. Then the battle went to hell...
A six foot long tongue slithered out of N'ressa's mouth. Like a snake it wrapped around Hayley entangling her. Hayley was slammed against a tree only a stroke of fate left her alive. Next the other bodyguards throw bolas entangling Flendec and Madoc. Finally the cloaked figured revealed himself as Toroc, Bronzino's Shaman, when he once again called upon the foot of Gork. Flendac was crushed to death and Madoc left a bleeding pulp barley breathing. Thanks to his magic ring Rubinifa was the only one of the four still alive!
Tayy turned tail and ran (boots of speed and the Flee skill proving their worth once again). Todoc flew after him but he was able to lose the flying shaman in the woods. Rubinifa tried to run but N'ressa shouted at him to stop. A tense negotiation followed as she wanted the Kreutzhofen docks. Having just inherited a share of the property from Flendac's death Rubinifa was able to make a deal to give her access and they escorted him back to the city. On the way N'rissa decided she like the look of his sword. He was forced to surrender the might blade which was given to Todoc.
Having stopped the chaos cult three times from taking over Kreutzhofen we finally failed against this fourth attempt. Selling the docks to N'ressa and split the cash between the five of us. We made plans to bury Flendac and make our way to Ryazan and a new life in the estates Hayley had won.
