The Story

The mayor of Icehaven summoned our trio of heroes to his office and offered us another job.  He wanted us to accompany Karamuntia the Ghomish healer to a hidden valley and gather some herbs that would help to cure the ice blight plague that had broken out.  We of course accepted.

He also said the town guard had rounded up a few reprobates found wandering near the city and we could take any of them that would be useful with us.  Having been taken to the cells we found a pair of Dragonborn and the half-fiend Tiefling in the cells.  After a short discussion we agreed to take them all with us.

Gathering horses and supplies we left the city and quickly noticed a dwarf on a pony following us.  Stopping to chat we found he was in the employ of a noblewoman who had sent him with gifts to aid our quest.  A bunch of magic arrows, a pair of daggers carved from dragons teeth and a healing potion.

After a couple of days traveling we reached the hidden valley which was actually a forest at the bottom of a fissure.  It was a good job we had extra rope as it was some 80' climb down to the bottom.

Searching through the trees for the mystic moss and fungus we needed several Blights attacked but were easily repelled.  Then we found a man being attacked by a swarm of bees.  Burning hands from our Sorcerer dealt with the insects and Arden was able to heal the man.  He introduced himself as Gartonius an apprentice druid and explained his master Sylvester had been driven mad and we were all in danger from from him!

As we were digging up a root we needed a great cat with tentacles protruding out of its back leaped from a tree and attacked.   It was not able to turn Magrim into a tasty snack.  With the butchered beast lying at our feet Gartonius said that was one of Sylvester's favorite pets.

Magic mushrooms for our quest were finally discovered in the branches of a seven trees standing in a clearing.  However as we harvested the mushrooms the trees began to move and spoke to us.  Some careful diplomacy allowed to leave with the fungus and without a fight.

Our last herb was dark moss and searching caves on the far side of the valley we encountered a fairy who said she would  lead us to the correct cave if we would retrieve a key for her.

Mystic runes, that Arden was able to comprehend, guarded the cave containing the key from fay creatures entering.  Magrim and our Dragonborn entered the cave and found the key on a pedestal some fifty feet inside.  Magrim tried to swap the key for a rock he thought was about the same weight.  This did not fool the guardians thought for as soon as he lifted the key shadows moved off the walls and tried to suck the life out of our heroes who fled from the cave.

After resting we continued to the location of the moss where upon the fairy said she now wanted us to use the key to open a portal that was inside the same cave.  Having collected our moss we declined to open the portal to fay world.  This led to an argument with a rather cross fairy which was interrupted by the arrival of Sylvester.  The druid called forth the blessings of nature transforming himself into a might elemental and attacked us.  It took all our power and skill to subdue his monstrous form and we decided to leave him unconscious in the forest.  The poor fairy was killed by a stray arrow during the battle.

Making our way back across the valley and avoiding as many of the Blights as possible we returned to our hanging ropes and left the valley.  When we reached the top Karamuntia took the herbs saying she would let the Mayor know we had done our part.  She transformed into a hawk and flew north to brew the antidote.
