WFRP Chapter 109: An Unexpected End
Summary: A final confrontation with N'ressa.
Chapter 109 ~ Rise and fall of Ryazan.Over the next few months Zena become the head coach for the blood bowl team. She recruited Scrotch, the Skaven, our Elven allies Hubris Rakarth and Jordell Freshbreeze as catchers along with Chad Kroger and some of his orc tribe as blockers. Luke joined as the quarterback along with a few of the local humans as the teams linemen. After the team was seen winning their first few games Zena received a letter from Archduke Adelbert Von Bogenberg Chairman, National Bloodbowl league formally confirming the team was now part of the league.
This got the local lord of Bechafen worried his team would no longer be number one. He sent some assassins to deal with the Ryazan coach. There first attempt to kill her with poisoned wine failed. Sensing something was amiss Zena and Jordell chased the assassins out into the woods. The assassins shot at their pursuers with arrows also laced with poison. Jordell died as the snake venom stopped his heart but fate intervened and the arrow that hit Zena did not penetrate her armour. Allowing her to catch up to the assassins and hack them down. She recovered a score of poison arrows along with a few vials of liquid.
Countess Hayley formed a city council that included Skrotch, who somehow got himself elected as mayor; Chad Kroeger and Marougue representing the two Orc tribes and Inara who had managed to get herself appointed as the head of the newly formed Business Guild. Luke as head of the town guard and Gwin, as Sheriff, were also council members.
One of the the problems they faced was that N'ressa had not forgotten about us and had sent representatives to sort out the contact for the dock she required. We were able to deal with the first few that arrived however the next person they sent was Maddoc now a smooth talking worshipper of Slaanesh! He charmed Dagmar when she went to kill him. In the end Luke and Tayy had to hack him apart and then behead him as he was now able to regenerate his wounds thanks to the gifts of chaos.
We new it would not be long until N'ressa arrived herself so when we heard that Fenster, the strange Wizard, had been spotted in the area again Hayley led a group out into the wood to track him down. When we found him he was arguing with another Skaven we had not seen before about the amulet he carried.
Hayley make a deal with the Skaven that he could have the charm and we would help him stop Fenster. After a chase through the woods we finally corners the Wizard and with Marougue's help took him down. The Skaven grabbed the charm and then turned his powers on us! Gwin, Zena and Hayley were filled with Hatred and attacked their friends. Marougue had to use her magic to bring down Hayley killing the countess! Tayy dodged away from Zena and heroically attacked our furred opponent only to have his magic sword shatter! Tayy resisted the next spell that would have turned him into a Skaven himself and the Rat Seer turned and fled.
Returning with the countesses body to the city we started organising the funeral. Hayley's will passed on the title to Luke who became the Count of Ryazan. As Bess Harman was conducting the funeral N'ressa arrived. We asked her to wait in the inn, where the wake was happening, and we would be along once the funeral was finished to sort out her request for a dock.
While N'ressa waited we brainstormed ideas with how to deal with them. Tayy searched his almost bottomless magical bag and found some vials of poison and suggested we serve them a poisoned beverage and then attack. Zena also had some other vials of poison from the assassins she had killed.
We gave the vials to Jason Walton who laced the drinks and server N'ressa and her entourage as we arrived. Our plan worked with both N'ressa and the Shaman being incapacitated! Luke leaped forward and slew the lady of chaos while Tayy look great pleasure in stabbing up the Orc Shaman that had helped kill Flendec while Gwin and Zena were able to cut down the body guards. Finally we were free from the constant threat posed by the chaos cult and able to take a break from constant adventuring. We had lost many friends along the way but it was time to hang up our boots and take a break.
