Chapter Two City Ruffians
Our Heroes ride into Phandalin on the cart along with Sildar’s body.  We stop at Barthen’s Provisions. Myandir went inside talked with Barthen and received the payment for the shipment once he had come and checked the content. Continuing down the road a commotion was seen ahead where four red cloaked men were accosting a priestess…

Nearby at the Inn a young half-elf called Nessa was using her charm and eloquence to acquire free drinks. She heard shouts and screams from outside the building. Everyone else started staring at their drinks but she stepped outside right into the middle of the fray…

Raymondo, still waiting his Orc disguise, and Bjorn charged forward shouting and screaming. The ruffians turned and engaged them in battle drawing short swords. Rance jogged forward stabbing one of the men as Bjorn beheaded him. Nessa mocked the ruffians calling one a retarded tomato but he was still able to slice into her side with his sword.

The battle started to turn against us as Rance fell to a critical blow, even with Myandir healing him, and then Bjorn was also seriously injured. In a desperate act of heroics Raymondo reached into his pouch and flicked a live cricket over the assailants heads muttering arcane words. As the cricket landed the three injured ruffians staggered and fell sleeping to the floor. In moments only one was still breathing and Raymondo locked him in the manacles from his pack. The Priestess healed Rance and introduces herself as Sister Garaele.  She explained that these ruffians, known as the Redbrands, have been terrorising the city for months. They recently killed the blacksmith and the Town master is too afraid of them to do anything about it.

Retreating to her house Sister Garaele recognised the body of Sildar that we still had with us.  She retrieved a rare scroll from her shrine and used it; restoring his soul to his body.  While Sildar was recovering Raymondo finally went and removed his disguise.  Rance and Bjorn strong-armed Jeremy, our prisoner, into telling us the bandits hide out was in the ruins of Tresendar Manor.  He knew nothing about the Black Spider or Cragmaw Castle.  As we had no cell to keep him in Nessa slit his throat.

Next we went to the Ironshield Coster and received a reward from Linene Graywind for her stolen goods we had found in the Goblin caves.  Rance purchased better armour after his previous run in.  Sildar agreed to get us rooms at the inn where we stayed the night.

The next morning Sildar starts with his plans to restore order to the town.  We travel to the Alderleaf farm as it was the closest dwelling to the ruined manor.  Her son was able to tell us about a secret entrance in the woods which he let us too.  Use the cloaks of the fallen we disguised ourselves as Redbrand members and put the manacles on Bjorn to make him look like a prisoner and then entered the hideout.

Descending into the cellar Rance noticed a rope hanging into the water of the cistern.  Using a spectral hand Myandir pulled it up bringing a waterproof bag to the surface which contains some potions and  clothes.  Opening the first door Raymondo tried to bluff that we were new recruits taking our prisoner to the cells.  The first ruffian came out to show us where the cells were but was not convinced by the poor acting of the rest of our group and a short fight broke out.

Searching around we found a secret door which we attempted to block to prevent anyone sneaking up on us from behind.  Proceeding to the north Raymondo triggered a trap and jumped clear.  Unfortunately even with a rope Bjorn and Mayandir both managed to fall in the pit as they clambered across!

Opening the double doors at the end of the hall we entered a dusty crypt containing three large stone sarcophagi with skeletons standing next to them.  Myandir is suspicion these are undead warriors but none of them move as we advance perhaps because of the red cloaks we are wearing?  From behind the door at far end of the crypt we can here men shouting at their prisoners.  Feeling more experienced from our exploration we prepare to enter and fight more villains.
