Random Scrolls (3rd & 4th Level)  This would be High for Tier 1, mid for Tier 2 and low for Tier 3-4 scrolls.   d% Roll Spell Scroll d% Roll Spell Scroll 1 Animate Dead 51 Tongues 2 Aura Of Vitality 52 Vampiric Touch 3 Beacon Of Hope 53 Wall of Sand 4 Bestow Curse 54 Wall of Water 5 Blinding Smite 55 Water Breathing 6 Blink 56 Water Walk 7 Call Lightning 57 Wind Wall 8 Clairvoyance 58 Arcane Eye 9 Conjure Animals 59 Aura Of Life 10 Conjure Barrage 60 Aura Of Purity 11 Create Food And Water

Custom Treasure Tables (5e)

Image
The 5th ed D&D Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG) provides treasure tables but they are based on what the developers want to hand out.  For me there are many powerful items I do not want to give out and others that are quite useless.  Enchanted Leather Armour for instance is no better than regular Studded Leather. Given the SRD /Basic Rules lack any tables I have been making customer treasure tables for my game using only items found in the SRD.  I had a design goal of making magic weapons harder to acquire allowing  abilities and spells that enchant weapons to have a larger place in the game.  Most of the more generic +X items have also been removed but I did want to leave in some of the classic items such a Belts of Giant Strength. Minor Treasures (DMG Magic Item Tables A-D Combined)  This is potions, scrolls and other minor items characters can make use of.  Everyone loves a bag of holding after all!  The expectation is that characters will get one consumable every level.  I

Moldvay Basic Episode 34

Image
Background A blast from the past as we continue our Moldvay Basic D&D game. It is an open table format with who ever turns up heading into the dungeon.  Classic murder-hobo's killing everything in sight and seeing how many magic items we can accumulate before we die. At the moment two of the party are slowly dying from poison and we cannot find anyone in the town that can cure it.  We have also started to stock pile magic items we have no use for as we have yet to find other adventuring parties with items for trade and have no use for more cash ( there being nothing of note to spent it on ).  We are reaching the point where we need to ask the question how much gold does an Elf need to retire and live like a prince for one hundred years?  Chapter 34: Finding the Third level Today we decided to go down the new staircase we had found to the third level.  First though we had to traverse the Orc Throne Room Room of Iron Door and a few other chambers we had pr

Penhaligon - A local guide

Image
Local area map The Barony of Penhaligon is located in the north of the Grand Duchy of  Karamekois. North through the mountains is the trade route to Selenica in the Republic of Darokin.  To the East is the Barony of Moorwood and Alfheim home of the Sylvan Elves. South is the Barony of Kelvin while West are the mountains full of Orcs and few stubborn Dwarfs. Locations of note in the region City of Penhaligon Capital of the region ruled by a council of Lady Arteris Penhaligon and four senior knights.  Population is about 85% human with the rest being a mix of Dwarves, Half-Orcs, Half-Elfs, some Hin traders and a small delegation of Sylvan Elves. The city is the last large population center heading north on the Duke’s Road, which actually bisects Penhaligon from north to south.  Although Penhaligon has some rough neighborhoods most of the population is what the modern world would consider “working poor,” there are no desperate slums.  Penhaligon is famous for two things: the ma

Moldvay Basic Episodes 30 to 33

Background A blast from the past as we continue our Moldvay Basic D&D game. It is an open table format with who ever turns up heading into the dungeon.  Classic murder-hobo's killing everything in sight and seeing how many magic items we can accumulate before we die. The only stuff we have found to spend our gold on so far is potions of healing and town property.  In fact we are now stock piling magic items we cannot use and trying to trade them to the other NPC adventuring parties!  On the plus side we do have a nice house. Chapter 30: A New Dungeon A new year and a new dungeon.   Taking a different path into the cliffs we found a small cave with a statue of a a war goddess.  By placing a sword in her hand we opened up a secret door leading into a new cave complex.  The rooms we explored were mostly filled with Orcs.  There were also a few apes guarding rotten food supplies.  Having found the Throne room Karina examined the door to the west, the first tim

House Rules for DND

Image
There are a lot of source books and some optional rules for Fifth Edition Dungeon and Dragons.  This is how I plan to run the game. Character Creation and Leveling Use 4d6 drop lowest and roll two characters.  If both are hopeless use the standard array (15,14,13,12,10,8) otherwise pick one.  Use !randchar in the discord character channel. Allowed content is - Players Handbook (PHB) and Xanthars Guide (XGE) excluding Hexblade PHB Chapter Six Options - Multiclassing & Feats allowed. Everyone will get a free, character appropriate, feat assigned by the DM at level 1.  This will be to help round out the party and bolster weaker characters.  Usually from half-feats like Linguist, Athlete or party support such as Healer. Level 4 Ability Score Improvement feature.  All characters get a Feat and Ability score improvement rather than having to pick only one. Characters will be tracked using DND Beyond . You can create an account for free. Spell Changes Healing Spirit -

LBBL - Season 7: Gas-Glow Septic

Image
For Season 7 of LBBL I had to start a new team having won the previous season.  Given I had just purchased a painted 2nd Edition Skaven team this was a perfect opportunity to use them.  I went into the season with the aim of getting the most completions as that was the only fridge magnet I had not yet won but ended up managing so much more... R1: vs Wyrdstoned Wizzardz score 2-0 Septic kicked the ball and the Wizzardz tried to push forward.  Unfortunately they were not hurting anyone while Septic was happily knocking out Rats and pushing others into the crowd.  Desperate to advance the Wizzardz gang fouled Roy Atiken and got sent off by the Ref.  This left 6 Wizzardz tightly grouped and a loyal fan in the crowd jumped up and flung a fireball setting four of them a blaze.  Septic helped put the flames out (with a few well placed punches).  When the dust settled Jimmy ran off with the ball and passed it to Jimmy who passed it to Jimmy (the other one) before scoring. In the second half

Arcane Trickster

Image
The Arcane Trickster is my favourite sub-class in Fifth Edition D&D.  It is not the most powerful but is a lot of fun.   Trickster does not need to multi-class but a single level of Wizard gives a big boost with access to all first level spells, ritual casting and we can trade out our known spells for more Second Level options.  Best spot for multi-class is level six but if we have a game where we expect to spend a long time in Tier 1 we can also dip at level 2. Rogues get lots of choice for using a Bonus action and Reaction as we go up levels. Actions: Attack; (3) cast a spell Bonus: Off-hand Attack; (2) Dash; Disengage; Hide; Mage Hand; (13) Versatile Trickster Reaction: (4) Shield ; (5) Uncanny Dodge; (6) Feather Fall ; (17) Spell Thief A trickster wants good Dex and Int as well as Dark Vision, after all it is hard to sneak around carrying a torch.  If we are using point buy that gives us three choices in the PHB - High Elf, Half-Elf and Forest Gnome. Feats/ASI: We are g
