Chapter 75 ~ Day two
Our breakfast was once again interrupted this time by Marcel telling us the local news that eight men had tried to mug Andy Dufranne and he had defeated them all.
After breakfast we went to check out the jobs board and saw that Jurgan Klopp was wanting help. Given he was on our list this seemed a good opportunity. He offered 50 crowns to recover a ring with a Liver bird design that he said has been stolen and donated to the temple of Mann. During our conversation our city of origin came up and we discussed our mutual ally, Silavan. Having convinced Jurgan we were part of the inner circle he offered us 1000 crowns to make sure Andy Dufranne was found dead. We also found out he was voting in favor of taxation and had been shipping many goods south to Silavan using Becker's trading company. Saying we would look in both options we headed off.
Having been to the temple of the sea god twice already we returning their and talked with Adam Peaty. Tayy asked outright about the ring and convinced Adam that as a master-mage Morgan could help identify it. Adam took Morgan to the ring; he was able to divine it was Evil (with a capital E) and granted enhanced strength. Adam confirmed it had been at the temple a long time having been taken from a chaos cult by a previous high priest. Our suspicions about Klopp confirmed our next stop was Dufranne.
In another repeat of the previous day we put our cards on the table and told Dufranne we new who had put a contract out on him. We suggested a plan of faking his death so we could catch Klopp and get him removed from office. We would have to do this close to the vote to ensure there was not enough time for a replacement to be electect. Andy was not keen on the idea but agreed to meet us at the Dragon club that evening to discuss in more detail. When we met up with Andy and Ellis Boyd we were able to convince them of our plan. Ellis would be the inside man who checks the body after we get some witnesses to see Flendac 'kill' him. Neo, Haley's boyfriend, can then observe our transaction with Klopp as proof he paid for an assassination.
As we were leaving Victoria Addams, the clubs madam, approached Hayley and offered her a job. It was commission based and Hayley agreed to come back the next day for a trial to see how she got on working in a brothel. At least it would give her an income!
Our afternoon was spent finding out about Jarad. Tayy was able to convince him to spill the beans and we learnt he was being blackmailed to vote in favor of taxation as Odette his daughter was being held hostage. Jarad told us Boris Becker, head of the Merchants guild, had been contacted by the kidnappers and was acting as a go between and we was meeting Becker that night for an update. We did not tell Jarad but our own thoughts were that Becker was the kidnapper not another victim. We agreed to meet up with him at the Dog's bark that evening to check out what was going on and work out how to rescue Odette.
If we rescue Odette securing Jarad's 2 votes (together with Wizards, 3 Churches and Ellis Boyd) there is 13 influence against Taxation.
Removing Klopp nullifies 3 votes leaving Kanye, Koln, Becker and Leason as 10 influence for taxation.
We have 8 influence unknown (Ladies, Claude, Champion & Jenson) which could still swing the vote.
We also learnt some more information about the other players -
- Klopp, Becker and Leason support each other as a group.
- Ladies in waiting often drink at the Gunner's arms.
- Champion Kanaga drinks occasionally at Golden Hammer.
- Claude's bodybuard, Alexander Volkanovski, is known to Dufranne so we can always find out his whereabouts. Tonight he is watching a play at World's Edge Theater along with his new girlfriend.
