WFRP Chapter 64: Legends never die




Background: Battling the leader of a chaos cult...

Our Heroes

  • Morgan (David) - Human Battle-Mage
  • Ragnar (Oliver) - Human Outlaw with Foe-cleaver a killer Axe
  • Tayy Whitethorn (Michael) - Halfling punching-bag (and spy)

Chapter 64

Being unable to find more armour in town our three heroes returns to the pass to try and make sure that the mercenary company hired by Silavan would actually battle Thomas Lamar and his chaos warband rather than aiding them.  We checked in with Maruge and her clan to make sure we had a location to flee to should things go wrong and then made our way to the pass.

Around lunchtime we saw Lamar and his men coming towards Dutch and his mercenaries.  From our hiding place Ragnar shot a few arrows at Lamar's men.  Lamar responded with a Fireball into the mercenaries which initiated the large fight we wanted.

Tayy and Ragnar picked off a few cultists with arrows while Morgan just tossed lighting bolts killing six and leaving just Lamar facing Dutch and a dozen men. 

With Lamar injured by a couple of critical hits from Dutch we saw an opportunity.  Morgan and Ragnar charged into melee shouting out to Dutch they were coming to help.  Using the magical ring Morgan teleported Tayy into position to get a surprise attack on Lamar but sadly his dagger barley penetrated the skin.

Lamar killed Dutch and the last of his men before turning towards our heroes.  Looking to take out the weakest opponent first he slashed at Tayy.  Who dodge the first blow and, thanks to all the magic items he had, survived the next two hits. Tayy stabbed back which Lamar instinctively dodged.

This left him unable to defend from the others; Morgan got a massive blow on Lamar's back with magically empowered fists leaving Lamar seriously wounded.  This was the opening Ragnar needed as he brought Foe-cleaver, his magic axe, down severing Lamar's sword arm!  Blood spurting everywhere.  Finally this legend died.

Searching the bodies the three survivors each got over one hundred gold crowns.  Ragnar got the most powerful magical breastplate in the empire (or at least this game) while Tayy got Swift-reaper a magical sword giving his extra strength and attacks.  If he can hit someone, which is still unlikely with 28% WS, he can now deal as much damage as an average man!

Covered in blood the victorious trio spend the night in Hernen's cave where Tayy washed all of there clothes.  Returning to town Tayy was then able to order custom made armour with his new found riches.  It is hard to find a breast plate in extra small.

Death Zone 2020 - A Review

    Once again we have a beautifully produced full colour book that is slightly marred by the lack of proof reading.  Almost everything in the book is a reprint of the 2016 content updated to use the new team special rules.  There are little things such as Ranulf the Ref still having to "roll higher than the AV of the player" even though the main rule book changes AV 7 to be AV 8+ being everyone else is having to roll equal to AV.  Then we have the new Mercenary rules where the Elf starts with AG 2+ but can increase this by 2 to AG 0+ when AG 1+ is the max allowed!!? New Inducements This section takes all the inducements printed in the old Death Zone and Spike journals and updates them to use the new team special rules.  Instead of being taken by an Orc or Dwarf team they are now Badlands Brawl or Worlds Edge.  This expands which teams can take them.  Some of the inducements have had minor alterations and there are a couple I have not seen before.
