Chapter 80 ~ Living in the Moment
Sarah Beaumont the assassin we had met on our travels to Nuln came looking for Morgan. It turned out the Teller family were clearing house and she was being hunted and looking for protection. We arranged for her to go with Dagmar and help out our friendly outlaws with her skills.
Next we visited Asterellion at the artist colony to find out if he had been able to deal with Gobbo the Great and his Elven follower. It turned out they had not and Tayy was able to convince one of the war dancers to offer us 200 crowns should we success and bring these Elves the heads of their enemy as proof. Tayy was also able to spend more time with Flora who agreed she could train him in her artistic talent (forgery).
Returning to the Black Eagle we were only half way through our second pint when the trio of Teller assassins arrived. Tayy spotted the bolas they had around their waste and expensive looking leather armour. Clearly people not to tangle with unless Flendac was around.
They started asking around about Sarah offering gold. Even after they had got confirmation we knew something they were reluctant to give us any coin. In the end Tayy was able to negotiate to get aid for Hayley in her training to become a duelist.
The next morning we met up at the training ground outside the city. Tayy arrived with freshly baked lemon curd muffins for everyone. After two hours of training Hayley was confident in her career choice. We led the trio to Weilerberg were we could see the half built keep Dagmar was constructing. Hiding in the woods we watched expecting to see the men slaughtered. Unfortunately it seemed the outlaws were occupied elsewhere.
Madoc was spotted by the departing assassins. He made up some excuses about collecting herbs but it was clear they thought he was doing other activities alone in the woods. Fortunately as no one else was seen the men left without provoking a fight.
Having eaten our cucumber sandwiches and muffins we took a lazy walk up to the Winters Teeth pass and chatted to some of the traders. The convoy of La Mar wagons was accompanied by several soldiers. The bandits and Gobbo were still active but had not been spotted today. We finished the day talking to Lt. Kurt von Strom at the watch house. He had been promoted after the recent purge. In conversation he confirmed the watch had been looking for bandits but not found them. His other concern was marital problems with his wife of six years. Tayy offered to bake a special cake to help smooth out the troubles and was rewarded by making a new contact for his growing network of spies.
