WFRP Chapter 81: I think I smell a Rat

Chapter 81 ~ I think I smell a Rat

In order to find out when the Debellen mercenaries were going to be taking on the role of bandits again Tayy suggested that Hayley and Rubinifer got jobs there.  The pair went and got themselves hired for the next wagon train that was heading out in two days time.  While sparing with the other employees Hayley recognised the mercenary captain as the man who had been leading the bandit group we had seen robbing the La Marr traders a few days ago.

While relaxing and playing cards that afternoon Sarah Beaumont found us at the mill.  We were somewhat surprised to see her given the bounty hunters were only staying at the pub across the road!  She told us Dagmar had been attacked by Skaven near Grung Ardzufak and her Dragoons were holed up in the keep heavily wounded.  If the Skaven attacked they were done for! Hiding Sarah in the back of our cart we headed off to help.

Clearly lacking any tactical sense we approached the keep on the open road.  We could see a few Skaven in the distance but missed those closer lying in ambush.  Fifty Skaven jumped out of cover and charged towards us.  It looked like the end for all of us but Madoc used his priestly powers to strike terror into most of the rodent army.

A dozen warriors and a couple of magicians still charged towards us.  It was only through the weave of fate that Madoc did not die as a massive fireball erupted on the cart flung from the hand of a Grey Seer.  Fortunately the other three members of the party struck were immune to fire damage (magical items are cool).

Madoc swung the cart around and we high tailed it away.  Luckily for us the Skaven did not want to follow and returned to their blockade of the fort.  Spliting the party Madoc and Tayy hurried back on the cart to Kreutshofen to get help from the Militia.  The other four decided to stayed and use guerilla tactics to keep the Skaven occupied and ensure the rodents did not storm the fort and slaughter the wounded sheltering inside.

Rubinifa passed Tayy one of his magical mirrors so that both groups could see what was happening to the other.

Death Zone 2020 - A Review

    Once again we have a beautifully produced full colour book that is slightly marred by the lack of proof reading.  Almost everything in the book is a reprint of the 2016 content updated to use the new team special rules.  There are little things such as Ranulf the Ref still having to "roll higher than the AV of the player" even though the main rule book changes AV 7 to be AV 8+ being everyone else is having to roll equal to AV.  Then we have the new Mercenary rules where the Elf starts with AG 2+ but can increase this by 2 to AG 0+ when AG 1+ is the max allowed!!? New Inducements This section takes all the inducements printed in the old Death Zone and Spike journals and updates them to use the new team special rules.  Instead of being taken by an Orc or Dwarf team they are now Badlands Brawl or Worlds Edge.  This expands which teams can take them.  Some of the inducements have had minor alterations and there are a couple I have not seen before.
